BIG BEAR LAKE MAYOR, RICK HERRICK, TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

With everything we’ve been seeing in the news lately, it was only a matter of time before Big Bear Lake was exposed to the COVID-19 outbreak.
As of late Friday evening, that became a reality when the mayor of Big Bear Lake, Rick Herrick, became the first to test positive from the area.

According to a press release from Saturday, Herrick stated: “I was tested after a week of self-quarantine following what has felt like a bout with the flu. The results concluded that I’ve contracted the coronavirus, the first confirmed case in Big Bear [California]. This is not the announcement that I imagined, but I hope that by going public on what is normally a private, HIPAA-type subject can be a learning moment for our tight-knit community.”

Rick Herrick was elected to the Big Bear Lake City Council in November 2006 and re-elected in November 2010, November 2014 and most recently in November 2018. He also served four terms as Big Bear’s Mayor – 2008, 2009, 2018 and 2020. Currently, Rick serves as a Director on the Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Agency (BBARWA) Board of Directors and Vice-Chairman of the Big Bear Lake Fire Protection District.
According to the press release, he is doing well and expected to fully recover.
The mayor asked residents to follow the shelter in place order put in place for San Bernardino County, which includes Big Bear Lake.
“The sooner that we collectively can conquer this disease, the sooner we can get our lives back to a regular routine,” Mayor Herrick said.
Mayor Herrick is the 10th confirmed case of COVID-19 in San Bernardino County.
